Trump Stands Firm on Saudi-Funded LIV Golf Amid Human Rights Concerns

(Liberal Voice Network) – In his recent appearance at Trump National Golf Club, former President Donald Trump vocally supported his business ties with LIV Golf, a Saudi-funded tour. Playing alongside notable golfers and reporters, Trump commended the course while expressing optimism about the future of LIV Golf, highlighting its ample financial resources.

Trump criticized the PGA Tour for what he deemed a “major mistake” and praised the Saudis for their significant contribution to the sport, emphasizing the positive publicity they have generated. However, the controversial Saudi-funded tour has faced criticism for sportswashing, using sports as a distraction from the country’s human rights abuses.

Despite accusations of human rights violations, including politically motivated killings and torture, Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund continues to finance LIV Golf. This weekend’s event at Trump National Golf Club marks the third tournament held at one of Trump’s properties, with future events scheduled at his courses in Bedminster, New Jersey, and Miami, Florida.

When questioned about potential rewards for favorable policies toward Saudi Arabia during his presidency, Trump dismissed such notions and emphasized that LIV Golf rents his courses. Trump effusively praised the Trump National course, comparing it favorably to other renowned golf venues in the area.

Regarding his involvement with LIV Golf, Trump encouraged golfers to seize the financial opportunities the tour offers. Reports suggest that some players have received eight- to nine-figure sums for participating. Trump also noted his longstanding friendship with the people of Saudi Arabia.

The U.S. Department of Justice has reportedly subpoenaed the Trump Organization for records related to LIV Golf and Trump’s connection to the tour. Trump attributed this action to retribution from the current administration without providing evidence to support his claim.

Despite no longer having the same level of access to Trump National, Trump expressed enthusiasm for the game, remarking on the enjoyable nature of the pro-am event. He also claimed that LIV Golf has positively impacted golf and the U.S. economy, pointing to job creation and economic development.

When asked whether he would end his business association with LIV Golf if he were to return to the White House, Trump evaded a direct response.
